Lesson 11 - The Consciousness of Energy
As soon as we live deep within ourselves, we become conscious of all of
our various secret thoughts and emotions, some of which we would just as
soon be without. Therefore, the average man who is not a mystic
distracts himself and endeavors to live two-thirds in the external world
and only one-third within himself. An aspirant on the path of
enlightenment, however, has to live his life two-thirds within himself.
How is this accomplished? When you are conscious of the thoughts that
you don't want to think, the emotions that you don't want to feel, go
deep within where they don't exist. Take awareness to the central source
of energy right within the spine itself. Feel that energy flowing
through your body, moving the muscles and enlivening the cells. Then you
are two-thirds within yourself, and the world looks bright and cheery
all the time, and the sun is always shining inside. As soon as we begin
to identify totally with our thoughts as being reality, then we begin to
make the big mistake of living two-thirds in the external world.
How to strike the balance? Regulate the breath throughout the day. Keep
the spine always straight. Always sit up straight. As soon as the spine
is bent, awareness is externalized and living two-thirds in the external
area of the mind and only one-third within. As soon as the spine is
again straight, our awareness is internalized. We are living two-thirds
within the mind and only one-third out. This takes some concentrated
effort to perfect.
The biggest barrier is fear. People become afraid of their secret
thoughts and afraid of their secret feelings. The biggest escape from
fear is going within, to the center of one's being where all energy
exists, and becoming aware of this energy. This is the energy that moves
the life through the body. The simplest way to get the feeling of energy
is to move your spine back and forth. Feel the power that moves that
spine. Feel that energy going from the spine out through the nerve
system into the physical body. After practicing this exercise for
awhile, look at the world again, and you will see it all as being bright
and shiny. That is the way the world looks when awareness if two-thirds
in and one-third out. You are balanced.
"Be renewed by a change of your mind." Be renewed by releasing awareness
from one area of the vast universe of the mind, drawing it back into its
source and releasing it again, sending it to another of the vast areas
of the mind.
